Rolling for Rowan Rules Summary

Rolling for Rowan will follow MIHA inline hockey rules with the tournament-specific adjustments below. These rules are designed to keep games competitive, safe, and moving on schedule.

Game Format

Games will be played 4 vs. 4, with each team skating four players plus a goalie.

Each game will consist of three 14-minute running-clock periods. The clock will only stop in the final 2 minutes of the 3rd period if the score is within 2 goals or fewer.

All games will be officiated by one referee.

Tournament Rules & Modifications
  • No intentional body checking is allowed.
  • Puck in the netting is play-on. Play will not stop if the puck hits the netting.
  • Each team receives one 1-minute timeout per game.
  • Mercy rule: Games will end once a team reaches an 8-goal lead.
  • Following a mercy-rule game, teams in the next game will be expected to be ready to play within 5 minutes.
  • Fighting is banned. Any fighting may result in tournament ejection.
Tie Game Format

Saturday Games:
Ties will be decided by a shootout.

Sunday Games:
Ties will go to a 5-minute 3 vs. 3 overtime, followed by a shootout if still tied.

The tournament director and officials reserve the right to remove any player or team for unsafe play, fighting, abusive conduct, or behavior that goes against the spirit of the event.
